Help Migratory Birds Safely Journey in the Night Sky

  • Saxton B. Little Library 319 Connecticut 87 Columbia, CT, 06237 United States (map)

Twice a year, millions of birds migrate over Connecticut at night, navigating by the light of the moon, stars, and setting sun. As they pass over big cities like Hartford and New Haven, they can become disoriented by bright artificial lights and skyglow, causing them to be drawn into unsafe areas where they are more likely to collide with windows and glassy buildings. The result is devastating: 1 billion birds killed every year in the United States. We can reverse bird declines. Come learn about Lights Out Connecticut, the growing movement of CT residents and businesses pledging to dim unnecessary lights during spring and fall to help bird migrate.
