“Know this, the Night Sky is full of Life”

Join us on Sunday morning at the Shoreline UU Society in Madison, CT. Co-chair Meredith Barges will give a sermon titled, Know this, the Night Sky is full of Life, reflecting on why and how we should resist the temptation to light up the night sky.

She says, “Modernity tells us, we don't need the night sky, that it's lifeless, unintelligent, and disposable. A waste of time. But that is oh, so wrong. New science reveals that the night sky contains worlds, including millions of migratory birds and butterflies winging their way across continents. The dark night sky is a vital habitat. So, our limited respect for her harms us, our ecosystems, and the wildlife that depend on full cycles of light and darkness. What can we learn from inquiring about why modern society wants us to drown out the night? What can we gain from resisting?”

The Shoreline UU Society will generously share the plate with Lights Out Connecticut during the month of April.
