“The Storkman” film screening @ Best Video

Please join NH Docs and BVFCC at Best Video Film & Cultural Center for a new monthly screening collaboration. Our May feature will be The Storkman directed by Tomislav Jelincic. There will be a short presentation from Meredith Barges, Co-Chair of Lights Out CT, regarding bird migration and her organization's efforts to protect it in CT. The event begins at 7 pm, with a cover charge of $10.

The Storkman story begins 27 years ago when widower Stjepan Vokic found a stork with a broken wing. He saved her life and named her Malena. Since then, Malena has been living with Stjepan, sharing endless lonely winters and happy but short summers when Malena's faithful male stork returns to her. Without Stjepan Malena would certainly starve to death. And we ask ourselves, who would Stjepan be without Malena?

Meredith Barges, M.Div. '23 is a Policy Researcher for the Yale Bird-Friendly Building Initiative and the Co-Chair of Lights Out CT. Lights Out Connecticut was launched by the Connecticut Ornithological Association in February 2022, recognizing the urgent need to protect the millions of migratory birds that rest and nest in Connecticut each year. They work across Connecticut to reduce the danger of unnecessary artificial lighting for migratory birds that can lure them off track into fatal window collisions and other threats.
